...Child Abuse Prevention
The Family Support and Parent Education domain is also known as How are the Children?®

Mesa County Partnership for Children and Families is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of children everywhere through positive parenting and community outreach. We believe every child deserves to grow up in a loving, nurturing environment.

We prevent child abuse and neglect by supporting families, educating parents, and engaging community members to ensure the children are well in Mesa County.

Goal: When we ask the question, "How are the Children?" the answer will be "Our children are nurtured, happy and well."

"What would it be like if the President, the Governor, the County Commission, City Council or School Board began every meeting by answering the question, 'And, how are the children?'"

Between January of 2006 and June of 2007 six Mesa County children died as a result of child abuse or neglect. All were under the age of three. The citizens of Mesa County found this to be completely unacceptable.  With a goal that "Not One More" child should die from abuse, Mesa County hosted a Town Hall meeting on Child Abuse in October of 2007.

Local leaders and citizens from all across Mesa County came together to identify the causes of child abuse in our community. Several critical areas of concern and opportunities for improvement were identified and breakout groups began the process of developing a strategic plan. Goals and objectives were identified and refined through several follow up meetings.
